Kids & Teens Music Enrichment Classes

Musical Theatre Workshops
Grades K/1st, 2nd-4th and 5th-8th

Introduce your child to musical theater! Each week, your child will get to take part in acting games, singing and movement that help develop their imagination, creativity, and performance skills. This class will help students build their self confidence and expression through performance! The class culminates in a short performance for friends and family at the end of the session.

Songsters – An Introduction to Singing

This class is most appropriate for children ages 8 – 12 who are interested in singing. Students will learn about proper breathing and posture, support, projection; basic theory and sight singing; and will learn vocal repertoire appropriate to their age and level.

Intro to Violin – Ages 6-10

Intro to Violin class is designed for children, ages 6-10 years old, to learn about the instrument, gain new playing skills and prepare them for the next step of private lessons. Classes include how to hold the violin and bow, hand position and finger placement, learning how to use the bow, names of strings,  ear training, and rhythm work. Parents or care givers should stay with their student in the classroom for the duration of the class.

The Intro to Violin group class is offered tuition free this year! CMS is very fortunate to be the recipients of a substantial bequest that has afforded us the special opportunity to give back to the community that has been so good to us. This program is presented to honor the memory of someone who loved music education and we hope to inspire future generations of music lovers. Students will be charged a $35 annual registration fee plus a $30 materials fee to cover the rental of a violin & bow for the duration of the class.

Theory & Musicianship

CMS provides music theory classes for beginner to advanced students using the ABRSM curriculum. The aim of music theory study is to give students a thorough understanding of the building blocks of music, starting with basics of notes and rhythm to understanding harmony, counterpoint, composition, and a broad knowledge of composers, their works, structure, style and period.  Students can request a placement exam prior to registration to determine which level of the curriculum is the most appropriate.  Students may also enroll in private lessons for music theory or composition. Lessons will be billed at the prevailing rate for 30, 45 or 60-minute private lessons.

2024-2025 Music Theory & Musicianship Class Schedule:
